We are looking for a volunteer to manage our Instagram handle @immigrantsofthedmv (or iDMV as we call it). Our iDMV account allows individuals who are immigrant individuals living in the DMV to hold the handle on a Sunday for 24 hours and share a day in their life. Many people choose to share photos and stories from their childhood or their journey to the U.S. and others choose to share their art or skills.

This volunteer would be the main point of contact for people interested in holding the handle and act as a recruiter and scheduler. Additionally, this volunteer would repost or share posts from others on Instagram as necessary. This volunteer would need to maintain the iDMV handle as their main priority but also attend our weekly Wednesday evening virtual meeting. As member of our Outreach Team, needed support will be provided by other teammates.

About KAMA DC

Location:

Mission Statement

KAMA DC aims to build community through immigrant-led cultural experiences.

Description

KAMA DC is a grassroots organization in Washington DC which provides a platform for immigrants in the DMV area to share their skills and stories.

KAMA DC is run entirely by volunteers who are passionate about building ties, facilitating cultural exchanges, and starting conversations. We highlight the skills and stories that immigrants bring to our community by hosting skills based workshops, cooking classes, storytelling nights, film screenings, and more.

KAMA DC volunteers began to meet in 2016 and we held our first class in December 2016. We gained official 501(c) non-profit status in 2018.

The idea is simple: by allowing people to learn from each other, KAMA DC builds constructive contact between groups who rarely interact. We facilitate dialogue, mutual understanding, and empower instructors and course participants to build positive community relationships.
