About:
The TEDxYouth@Seattle events are designed to inspire and empower young people
to share ideas worth spreading. The events feature diverse leaders ages 13-24 in the greater
Seattle area who are actively applying their ideas and talents towards creating a better future.
As a member of the TedxYouth@Seattle Core Team you will be asked to attend weekly meetings with the Volunteer and Core Team. This position will begin now with opportunity to continue into our 2023-2024 event.
~5-10 hrs/week, 1-2 Meetings per week (Volunteer Management Team and Core Team, possible additional meetings outside requirements)
People Officer Responsibilities (5-10 hrs/week):
● Lead development of this new role partnering with the other leads to build a culture of inclusivity, safety and growth
● Partner with Volunteer lead to recruit and onboard new volunteers
● Mentor and Coach volunteer team members Report to the co-organizers/PM/speaker team lead if conflicts arise
● Collaborate with or support the Speaker Team Adult People Officer to address coaches and speakers who may have difficult topics and situations
● Be a resource for all TEDxYouth Seattle Team Leads to consult with on inter-team issues
● Attend weekly meetings with the Volunteer Management Team and Core Team
Qualifications & Personal Characteristics
● 5+ years experience in Human Resources
● Professionalism and discretion
● Recruitment and selection
● Social/emotional awareness and empathetic
● Responsiveness and reliability
● Excellent conflict resolution skills
● Strong communication skills - online reliability + flexibility
● Technologically adept (i.e. understand Google Drive, Slack, Whatsapp - ability
to schedule and host meetings on Zoom)
● Management experience to support a growing organization (will lead people
virtually) and passion to help it thrive
● Passion for leadership and mentoring youth

If selected for an interview, you will be contacted to schedule a 30-60 minute interview with members of the Speaker Team. If you are selected to join the team, you will be invited to attend the next scheduled weekly Core team meeting.

About TEDx Seattle TEDxSeattle is one of the first TEDx events offered in the world, and is our region’s premier TED-style event as well as the largest in Washington State. Our premiere event is usually hosted at McCaw Hall, where we guide 2,800 people through a series of TED talks, audience activities, and lobby experiences over the course of a day. We also produce a series of smaller TEDx events around Seattle during the year.
Description
TEDxSeattle is a volunteer-based organization that strives to spread ideas worth sharing. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxSeattle, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxSeattle event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
