Volunteer Driver - Madison County RSVP

Purpose
To increase community members’ ability to age in place through socialization, access to food resources and medical appointments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Transport community members to and from destinations at a prearranged time and address, staying with community members as necessary
- Complete intake questionnaire with community members
- Coordinate all trips through the Volunteer Coordinator
- Immediately report incidences, accidents, or concerns to Volunteer Coordinator
Populations served
- People with disabilities, people with lower income, older adults, veterans
Qualifications:
- Must be 55+ to receive mileage reimbursement and supplemental insurance
- Valid driver’s license and insurance
- Be punctual and dependable
- Flexibility and patience

Training
- 5-hour virtual orientation and training
- Additional training provided as needed
Screening
The position of Volunteer Driver requires a rigorous level of screening that corresponds to the risk associated with volunteers who work unsupervised.
Volunteers will provide and/or complete:
- Application
- Interview
- Background Checks
Infectious disease safety
All volunteers and community members will be required to wear a mask while participating in HIRTA activities.

Description
HIRTA is a AmeriCorps Seniors grantee for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Madison and Marion counties. RSVP strives to keep older adults engaged in their community through volunteerism by connecting older adults with opportunities within their community. RSVP can partner with local public agencies and nonprofits to provide benefits to volunteers at these agencies who are 55 and better.
HIRTA has also partnered with Boone County RSVP and the United Way of Central Iowa to provide medical transportation through volunteers in Boone, Dallas, and Warren counties.
