Despite the shutdown, Silicon Valley Seeds is growing! Silicon Valley Seeds is battling against large corporations who are buying all our small seed companies and trying to patent seed genetics, making them unavailable to humanity. We want to see seeds kept in the public commons, available and free to future generations. We do that through building community, educating the public about seed saving, gardening and food preservation. Become part of our team and help us move forward. We are currently seeking a Non-Profit Financial Manager/Bookkeeper to help implement our financial system.

Description:
The Financial Manager / Bookkeeper position is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in building from the ground up. We are seeking an individual with a high degree of experience, vision and knowledge in working with a Non-Profit in Financial Management. We are a small organization and are looking for someone who can help us establish our financial framework and help us succeed in positioning our organization for growth. Bring your financial experience with you and join our team to take us to the next level.

About SILICON VALLEY SEEDS

Location:

Mission Statement

At Silicon Valley Seeds, we are dedicated to instilling, encouraging, and enhancing the personal seed stewardship and food sovereignty of the people living in Silicon Valley. We do this by: Encouraging the saving and sharing of seed as a means of sustaining a healthy level of biodiversity within the plants in our local gardens. We also work in support of local seed libraries and seed banks. We provide information and training necessary to grow common fruit and vegetable plants within Silicon Valley communities. The plants we encourage people to grow are those whose chance of cross-pollination is small and whose seed is easy to collect and save. We promote food sovereignty and the notion of personal nutrition awareness. We hope to see this leading to an increase in the availability and use of locally grown seed, the culinary enjoyment of the resulting produce, and the promotion of local adaptations within our plants.

Description

We are a small non-profit who got it's start a few years before the pandemic hit our shores.
Our goals are to encourage people to grow their own seed, to keep heirloom breeds alive, and to facilitate the sharing of seed. We do this by holding seed swaps, educating our community on gardening, seed saving and food preservation. Our goals for this year include adding human infrastructure in key areas of our organization. Our biggest goal for next year is to introduce an on-line seed library system and to kick off our Seed Champions program where highly experienced gardeners grow out seed for us and we provide them advanced education, community and other volunteer opportunities within the organization. In 2022 we intend to hold more fundraisers and educational events as well as expand our presence in the Silicon Valley. Though we are small, in our short span we have installed a demonstration garden, produced seed, held seed swaps, partnered with schools, donated seed to libraries, held educational talks, and educated the public via our website. We intend to keep moving forward and growing not only seed, but also community.
