Event Description:
Join staff in helping to ensure that the trails of Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve are safe and functional. Our trail system could benefit from some work and repair. Please come out and give us a hand performing general trail maintenance on the Riverwalk Trail at Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve.
Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers will be making adjustments and repairs to the trail tread.
Volunteer Impact:
Volunteers will help park staff to improve/repair degraded sections of existing trail within the preserve. This will help Preserve staff keep the existing trail system safe and functional.
Work Environment:
We will be working in the woods on uneven terrain. There may be contact with snakes and bugs. The farthest that we will be from a restroom facility will be 1.5 miles.
Volunteer Requirements:
Pre-registration is required. Adults must register and accompany children.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. Adults must register and accompany children under the age of 16. Everyone who volunteers must sign a release form. If anyone is under the age of 18, then a parent or guardian must sign their form as well.
Other Instructions:
Please wear sturdy close-toed shoes and clothing that can get dirty. We will supply tools, gloves, bug spray, a first-aid kit, and sunscreen. Please bring your own filled water bottle.
COVID-19 Policy:
Volunteers and staff must follow the COVID-19 policies below so that projects are safe for everyone.
- Social distancing must be practiced (6-feet between individuals)
- Everyone must wear a face mask or face shield (not provided) while within 6 feet of a person from another household
- State, federal, and local mandates must be followed
- If you have COVID-19 symptoms, please do not register
Group Registration Information:
Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email rachel.vannoordt@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.
Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
