Sensory mats are designed to safely stimulate and soothe people with Alzheimer's, dementia, autism, head trauma, or persons recovering from strokes. A step-by-step sewing guide and some supplies - fabric, quilt batting, snap fasteners, parachute clips, etc. - are availbale.
