Frontline Housing is looking for volunteers who are interested in helping the community. Volunteers are needed to help low- to moderate-income families file their taxes through the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Volunteers will file income tax returns for free for those who earn $53,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

Many low- to moderate-income families pay $200 or more for tax preparation services. Frontline Housing VITA site will offer solutions to help eliminate the cost of tax preparation services. By helping families make every dollar count, Frontline Housing hopes to encourage people towards financial independence.

We have various volunteer roles available! As a volunteer, you will meet with taxpayers, answer their questions, prepare returns online with the information they provide. Volunteers are expected to commit to 5-10 hours a month during the tax filing season, but exact hours are flexible.

The IRS software does all the math for you. Volunteers do not have to have any prior accounting or tax knowledge and all training is provided by the IRS.

Volunteers must pass the VITA Certification test online to be certified and agree to the Volunteer Standards of Conduct. Masks will be required at the VITA site and social distancing guidelines will be followed. We are also working to provide virtual options by tax season.

To apply as a VITA Tax Prep Volunteer, contact Victoria by email at victoria@frontlinehousing.org to indicate your interest, and further details will be provided.
