DMRS MISSION STATEMENT: To provide immigration legal services, advocacy, and community outreach to protect immigrants’ rights and advance justice in the spirit of the Gospel.
POSITION TITLE: DMRS Ft. Bliss Volunteer Afghan Evacuees

PURPOSE: To assist DMRS with Afghan Evacuees at Ft. Bliss
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist DMRS with answering Afghan Evacuee questions while at Ft. Bliss
- Staff DMRS desk while at Ft. Bliss
- Help DMRS with Legal Orientation Presentations
- Provide aid to the refugees as instructed by DMRS
- Assist with providing items needed by Evacuees
- Assist with the recreational needs of Afghan Evacuee Children
- Other assignments as necessary
- This position is compensated
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual English/Dari/Pashto preferred but not necessary
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Excellent Organizational skills
- Unafraid to make initial contact with others either verbally or in writing
- Commitment to immigrants and DMRS
- Ability to work independently AND as a team member
- Reliable and responsible
- Produce consistent results

SCHEDULE/TIME COMMITMENT: There are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm shifts 7 days per week
ORIENTATION/TRAINING: Free background check and safe environments training are required, as well as tracking of hours. Position specific training provided by DMRS. All volunteers must provide their COVID vaccination card upon request.

Description
Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services, Inc. (DMRS), is the largest provider of free and low cost immigration legal services in West Texas and New Mexico. DMRS provides a comprehensive range of immigration legal services including representation in family-based immigration matters, Citizenship/Naturalization matters, matters related to benefits for survivors of domestic violence and other crimes, removal proceedings before the Immigration Courts, refugee resettlement services, and services for adults and unaccompanied immigrant children detained in the local immigration detention centers and shelters. DMRS has been serving the immigrant community since 1986.
