ORGANIZATION: RUTHS REUSABLE RESOURCES

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 3 people are interested

This opportunity includes general warehouse activities, such as restocking pallets, moving items on shelves, etc. This volunteer may also help us take items apart to repurpose or recycle; check/inspect furniture and/or machines with motors (electric pencil sharpeners, fans, clocks, paper shredders, etc.) to be sure they work; and put together furniture or other items we receive new in boxes.

This opportunity is physical in nature may include lifting, pushing/pulling, standing and walking for long periods, climbing ladders, and using a dolly or pallet jack.

Close-toed shoes are required for safety reasons. We recommend comfortable shoes, such as sneakers.

We also recommend dressing in layers as the warehouse can be chilly for most of the year. The warehouse is also quite dusty, so light colored clothing is not recommended.

About RUTHS REUSABLE RESOURCES

Location:

39 BLUEBERRY RD, PORTLAND, ME 04102, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to ensure that all students, from pre-k through high school, have the basic supplies and creative tools for literacy, STEAM, and health education through the environmentally-conscious distribution of donated supplies.

Description

3Rs is in its 27th year of helping Maine schools. 3Rs' main program is a resource center where teachers can pick up supplies for their classrooms at no cost to the individual teacher. We distribute $3 million worth of materials to teachers annually. We also pack several thousand backpacks with new school supplies each August and distribute them to needy students throughout Maine. Our Computer Re-Life program takes in donated computers, laptops and related technology from businesses and makes it available to schools and non-profits for a small handling fee. Finally, after reusing and repurposing as many donation as we can, we recycle to the greatest extent possible, throwing items in the trash only as a last resort.
