The JFS Food Pantry Shopper Volunteer will work with the Food Pantry Coordinator to serve the needs of our guests/clients through weekly food distribution. This volunteer will be help clients identify and select items for their households according to food distribution guidelines. We are looking for volunteers who can do it all! Interested volunteers should be comfortable with our clients, have the ability to lift 20 pounds on a regular basis and love to help merchandise our food pantry grocery store!
Primary Responsibilities:
·Assist guests/clients with the selection of dry goods, hygiene items, bread, sweets, and fresh produce following shopping sheet guidelines.
·Load carts for safe transport to guest/client vehicle
·Observe all food safety regulations as guided by staff
·Ability to stage items in an organized fashion
·Clean/organize pantry as needed
·Interface with staff and guests/clients in a manner consistent with the agency’s mission
·Provide customer service to all clients in accordance to JFS non-discrimination policy
Requirements:
·Able to approach situations with calm
·Volunteer must be able to lift full grocery carts out of grocery carts and into a client's car
·Empathetically listen, while maintaining boundaries consistent with agency guidelines
·Passionate about serving pantry patrons
·Adaptable and flexible
·Easily approachable
·Enjoys organizing to help identify/institute efficiencies
·Ability to be trained in a fast-paced atmosphere
All volunteers must have their full COVID-19 vaccination.
