1 in 5 Americans suffer from a mental health condition. Educating our community to erase any stigma associated with mental illness and to know the signs of mental illness is key to reducing hospitalization, incarceration and homelessness within our county.
NAMI will pay for you to be trained in existing NAMI courses so that you can present evidence based information to our community organizations, churches and businesses. You will never be alone, there are always two presenters at each session and you will be paired with an experienced volunteer.

Mission Statement

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI Citrus is one of 650 affiliates around the United States. Our mission is to Educate, Advocate, Listen and Learn.

Description

We provide nationally developed, evidence based training to educate on mental health illnesses, support groups for both those living with mental health conditions as well as for their friends and family. We advocate at the local and state level for parity in mental health issues such as financing and insurance.
We collaborate and partner with other organizations such as the Department of Health and the School District to raise awareness and provide suport and education that was not previously available to those in need.
We serve residents across Citrus County with free mental health support, onliune groups, resources and education.

  • Orientation or Training
  • NAMI Citrus will provide the training and cover any fees associated with it. We ask that you commit to at least 12 months of volunteer service if we have paid for training.
  • Basic computer knowledge, such as slide presentations, is helpful. Comfort in public speaking is a plus.
