Dreaming of a Chance Farm Animal Sanctuary

Animal care volunteers help with the daily care of our rescue residents. You will be caring for chickens, ducks, pigeons, quails, and a turkey named Larry. We teach you either the morning (8am-10am) routine for the animals or the evening shift which is a more variable time frame as the seasons change and it gets dark earlier or later. These chores generally include feeding the birds, scrubbing waterers and replacing water, cleaning coops, cleaning runs, and letting out in the morning or putting away birds for the night.

About Dreaming of a Chance Farm Animal Sanctuary

21 Moore Rd, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569, US

Mission Statement

Our sanctuary focuses on rescuing abandoned poultry from around the Hudson Valley and NYC area. We strive to provide these rescues with quality care at their forever home here at Dreaming of a Chance and educate the public about poultry.

We opened at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic knowing that a ton of animals were going to be displaced due to the struggles the world was facing and decided to focus on poultry because so few do and in our opinion, they needed help the most.

Tons of birds were in need of homes as people got birds as covid pets as something fun to do during the pandemic and realized they no longer wanted them. Abandonment cases skyrocketed and we made the change to focus all our efforts on helping abandoned birds.

Abandoning a bird puts them at extreme risk of death by predators. If they are lucky enough to survive predation, starvation claims them. Domestic birds have no survival skills and many have been genetically modified to decrease flight capabilities putting them more at risk.

Volunteers help us care for all these once abandoned birds that call our sanctuary home and create a support system that enables us to help more. Volunteers are an integral part in helping us further our mission and are able to help in a variety of ways. Since our start, we have helped over 70 birds. This is thanks to wonderful individuals like you. We would love to have you as part of our team. Let us know if you're interested in volunteering.
