Are you ready to turn your compassion into action? The Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help both locally and across the country to help those impacted by disaster. Whether you have a few hours a week or 2 weeks available to deploy (Red Cross covers basic deployment expenses) we have a place for you! Check out the opportunities below to see which is the right one(s) for you!
Disaster Action Team: This volunteer team provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. Volunteers need to have access to technology as casework is completed on online platforms and many responses are handled remotely at this time. There is a particular need for volunteers with weekday availability!
Disaster Casework Volunteers: Connect directly with people affected by disasters big and small to help take the next steps in their recovery journey. Red Cross volunteers support the recovery process of disaster-affected individuals, households, and communities by providing advocacy, referrals and financial assistance using our case management system. There is a particular need for volunteers with ability to deploy for 2 weeks (Red Cross covers basic deployment expenses) and then keep your skills sharp in between deployments by supporting local recovery casework.
Shelter Volunteers: Support those displaced by a disaster by ensuring a safe place for our clients to stay. This may be in the gym of a school, a community center, or a faith center multi-purpose room. Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interact with clients to ensure their needs are met. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Local shifts vary from 6-hour daytime shifts to 12 hour overnight shifts. Two-week deployment opportunities are available as well with 12-hour shifts.
