International Quilt Museum collections care volunteers get the rare opportunity to see new acquisitions and famous quilts, as well as an inside view of the vast diversity of quiltmaking throughout history and around the world.

IQM collections volunteers work directly with the collection, refolding quilts, vacuuming quilts and objects, and completing other related work essential to the IQM’s mission of preserving our international collection.

The collections care teams generally work for 2-3 hours in the morning or afternoon, and volunteers may be asked to complete tasks that involve repeated reaching and lifting movements while standing or walking. Special collections care training will be provided for each task.

Mission Statement

The International Quilt Museum’s mission is to build a global collection and audience that celebrate the cultural and artistic significance of quilts.

Description

The International Quilt Museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus at 33rd and Holdrege streets. The museum has the world's largest publicly held quilt collection, dating from the early 1700s to present and representing more than 60 countries. Diversity and inclusion are central to the University’s and the IQM’s mission and pursuit of excellence. Each person has something to gain from and offer to our community of learning, discovery and outreach. All are welcome here. We hold memberships with the American Alliance of Museums and Association of Academic Museums and Galleries. We enjoy a partnership with the North American Reciprocal Museum Association (NARM) and Blue Star Museums, honoring active members of our military and their families with free admission between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
