ORGANIZATION: Innovative Youth with Action Uganda

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

We are looking for volunteers to support us in raising funds worth $13,800 for our Women Economic Empowerment project which shall be implemented in Serere district in Kadungulu Subcounty. Volunteers will be given information about the projects which they will use to raise funds from various fundraising platforms and crowdfunding sources.

Globally Uganda, is ranked 3rd with the highest economic dependency rate of 99.5%, this is attributed to multiple barriers to economic independence which include among others unemployment standing at 83% among young people of 15-24 years. Uganda has one of the youngest and fastest growing populations in the the world. More than 70% are below the age of 30 years. Every woman gives birth to 5.6 children on average. Many of them are widow's, women with disabilities, child brides, female heads of household's, single mothers or teenagers, facing severe obstacles to sustain themselves and their families. Despite the numerous efforts to reduce this trend, economic dependency among women and girls remains high as a result of limited access to resources such as capital, land and skills needed to get employment. As a result of this, they are unable to access economic opportunities, quality education and health care services.
We believe that when women and girls are able to learn, earn and save they become agents of change in their communities and nations at large. This fundraising drive will go a long way in enabling these women become financially independent which will enable them male sustainable contributions to their well-being and break the cycle of correlated poverty.
According to an African proverb, stick by stick a bundle makes. Fueling this fire will require your help. Together, we can accomplish great things through smart, sustainable investments that change women's lives in Uganda.

Mission Statement

IYAU is a non-profit organization that promotes empowerment of the most poor, marginalised, and vulnerable people for sustainable change. IYAU mission is to be a Local NGO that is committed to accessing opportunities to better the lives of the most poor, marginalised, and vulnerable people. IYAU model can be described as providing a local solution to a global problem. Our projects are sustainable community based development initiatives which are community demand driven, utilize local materials, local labor and ingenuity and ownership is transferred to the communities upon completion. More importantly, we focus on optimizing sustainability of our projects by forming long-lasting, collaborative relationships with communities. We do not initiate or build projects in isolation. Instead we work with communities to co-create programs that are appropriate for them and the environment in which they live.

Description

We believe sustainable development and transformation are essential to ensuring the creation of well-founded initiatives that empower the most poor, marginalised, and vulnerable people to change thier lives and communities. We work to empower them with the tools and knowledge they need that will allow them to overcome the many challenges they face and focus on creating innovative sustainable businesses and sustainable community based driven development initiatives. It's such well-founded initiatives that create jobs, improve people's livelihoods, and, in turn, ensure a lasting more prosperous society. As the widely-repeated adage has taught us, IYAU will help provide the hook, or access to it, that then empowers and allows the poeple to fish for themselves.

IYAU was founded on the premise that it's critical to elevate the most poor, marginalised, and vulnerable people's needs and ambitions to take responsibility for their communities. All of the organizations work aims to contribute to a society that supports and embraces the self-assurance of the poor, marginalised, vulnerable and thier communities.
