Public Invention, a US 501c3 Public Charity, seeks an unpaid Social Media Intern to work with our Volunteer and Outreach Coordinators; this individual must be willing to work at least ten hours a week for at least six months. This nonprofit offers technology and information for communities locally and globally. This includes open-source medical device projects, especially covid-19 tech projects, such as our Ox project group. Likewise, this organization empowers inventors to collaborate and design prototypes that can help others in various communities in need of medical or humanitarian equipment.

Hence, our several invention teams produce a lot of nerd-friendly content, and posting about all of it takes significant time. Currently, all social media efforts are being done by the President and Founder of Public Invention and our admin staff members, but we would like to empower another teammate to focus on this crucial part of our organization to help us better reach others interested in our efforts. Ideally, we are seeking an individual who is passionate about our plethora of members who vary in creativity, hobbies, goals and aspirations in order for said individual to fully support the marketing and communication of each teams’ works to the fullest. Responsibilities delegated to this role would include: designing a social media strategy, designing content, making posts by hand (approximately weekly), and generally attempting to grow the Public Invention brand and social media presence.

This would be a great position for a marketing professional who wants to gain experience while also working with a motivated group of volunteer researchers each possessing a diverse background and unique interests in a fun nonprofit group.

About PUBLIC INVENTION

Location:

1709 NORRIS DR, AUSTIN, TX 78704, US

Mission Statement

We empower inventors, technologists, and students to publish, find, and collaborate on invention ideas for the good of humanity through direct coaching, team formation, curation of work, publication, co-working and learning events, and material support.

Description

We challenge the notion that inventions should be reserved for patents and profits. Rather, we invite fellow builders of the future to use their skills for humanitarian purpose. We want to make the future better for everyone. To do this we remove, rather than add, legal barriers to the free use of our inventions. All work done with Public Invention is free and open to all under share-alike public licenses.

The Public Inventor of the future is not a lone genius but a person who is part of a community. We empower Public Invention Teams that embrace the interdisciplinary talents that combine to shape the future: inventiveness, design, writing, art, photography, engineering, administration, fundraising, and other skills we cannot predict. All of our work is in service to nurture humanitarian invention.

Recently, much of our work has been focused on our VentMon project, which works to improve pandemic ventilators in the fight against COVID-19. With that, we are working on an oxygen concentrator project. However, we are also working on non-pandemic related projects, such as Moonrat and Rapid E. Coli projects (clean water projects) and Euler Notebook (a stylus-oriented notebook for mathematics and science), among others. We are always looking to take on new and exciting projects working with inventors around the globe.
