The Leave No Trace (LNT) Hot Spot program identifies areas suffering from severe human-related impacts that can thrive again with LNT solutions. Each location receives a unique, site-specific blend of programs aimed at a healthy and sustainable recovery. This year, the city of Colorado Springs Regional Parks system was nominated as a Hot Spot!

In partnership with the City, RMFI is utilizing volunteers to participate in Hot Spot week at Stratton Open Space and Palmer Park. We encourage you to register for one or both of these special volunteer opportunities!

Description

The institute accomplishes its mission through key environmental projects developed in partnership with federal, state, and municipal land management agencies. These projects are completed through the following programs:

Research

Research studies that assess environmental conditions and threats to important biological resources, and identify resource preservation and restoration needs, strategies and alternatives.

Preservation and Restoration

Habitat and landscape protection and restoration work.

Education

Secondary level programs that provide students with exceptional opportunities to complete environmental service and gain a better understanding of the natural world and conservation issues.

College level programs that provide opportunities for students to complete environmental service, research, and fieldwork.

Public Stewardship

Programs that provide opportunities for the general public to complete significant, high quality environmental service.
