Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide technology training and computer access to the community, fostering skills that enable people to succeed in the digital age. Austin Free-Net believes that access to the internet is imperative in the 21st century and beyond and those without the digital skills to use any digital device and specifically computers are at a disadvantage. Those most affected by the digital divide are among the most underserved groups in the Austin community. Many do not have computers or broadband connections in their homes. The digital divide means they are unable to take advantage of economic and educational opportunities.
Description
Austin Free-Net is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded to provide individuals with access to community, technology training and resources, and the skills necessary to "succeed in the digital age." In 2016, the organization launched it Techno-Women program, a new community initiative that prepares and certifies low-income women for careers in technology through a 34-week program in COMPTIA Network and CompTIA A+ certifications.
Austin Free-Net is supported by its team of approximately 250 volunteers who provide service in the areas of IT support, administrative support, outreach, event management, and digital education.
