Thank you for your interest in our volunteer opportunity. If you are reading this it means that you already have the desire to help those in need, so do we!

This volunteer opportunity is the outcome of my years of experience working with different non-profit organizations in which we have mentored hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students who were interest in pursuing a healthcare-related career and wanted to have a hands-on clinical experience in a real primary care context.

With that experience, we have focused our efforts on creating a novel platform that meets the expectations of our volunteers and our communities. We understand that volunteers have high expectations about their medical trips, they want to connect with patients and understand how a doctor-patient relationship is built; they also desire a good learning experience, one that goes beyond empirical knowledge and observation

This volunteering addresses those expectations by allowing you to learn from a primary care physician for 6 days, interact directly with patients and make suggestions about diagnosis and treatments, always under the supervision of your mentor; hence, your involvement rather than just taking notes and vital signs, will be an inclusive experience in which you will apply a problem oriented medical record, and evidence-based medicine in a community setting.

Furthermore, we have included a 6 hour on-site medical course to impart you key topics about primary care, such as Infectious diseases, Basic Life Support, Prenatal Care, etc. Finally, if you choose so, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a scientific research project that, once concluded, can be published in a medical journal, and added to your academic resume.

Committed to the Code of Ethics and its principles of beneficence and do not harm, we have adapted our clinic in a way that allows you to be exposed to a real clinical scenario while preserving the patient privacy and integrity.

As you can see, our volunteer opportunity provides a holistic approach designed to exceed your expectations. We are positive that you will have the chance not only to travel to Guatemala and support underprivileged communities, but also live a unique experience that will enrich both your personal and professional life.
