Program Description: Welcome Baby is a free home visitation program (for families with children aged
newborn through three years old) that promotes healthy, secure, and enjoyable beginnings for parents,
new babies, and their family members. Trained volunteer home visitors visit families monthly, and bring
with them information on developmental milestones, baby commodities (such as diapers, wipes, toys, and
clothing items), a children’s book, and a learning kit. This is a self-appointed parent education program for
which a visit protocol, evidence-based curriculum, individualized parent education plan, and a specific
home visit framework has been developed.

Position Description: AmeriCorps members will be titled "Home Visitation Coordinators" and will be
staffed in a variety of sites, based on community need. These sites may range from medical clinics to
community learning centers to schools. AmeriCorps members will work to promote the importance of early childhood education and parent support in their community by working directly with families to educate them on the importance and value of home visitation, and assess the families; needs to get them enrolled in the Welcome Baby program. AmeriCorps members will collaborate with community partners, other home
visitation programs and clinic/site staff in order to provide support to families with children aged newborn
through three years old. In addition to conducting first-time Welcome Visits to new families, AmeriCorps
members will recruit, train and manage community volunteers (home visitors) to provide regular monthly
in-home visits and mentor families.

Member Benefits: During their 12-month term of service, members receive a living allowance
($610.42/month for part-time, $1,244 for full-time). At the end of their term of service, members receive an
education award that can be used for eligible student loans, tuition, or other education-related expenses
($3,097.50 for part-time, $6,195 for full-time). Members are also given an array of professional
development opportunities, as well as connection to a large network of AmeriCorps alumni.
