The S.O.U.L. program has been active at Mercy General Hospital since 1994. Mercy offers visits by four-legged volunteers and their handlers, to provide love and comfort to the patients as well as the staff and physicians.
The goal of the program is to improve any of the patient's four functional domains: physical, emotional, social and cognitive. Helping to change the patients focus from discomfort to pleasure is an equally important goal.
