Swim A Mile/Move A Mile 2024 Volunteers
WHAT: Volunteer for the 29th annual Swim A Mile/Move A Mile for Women with Cancer!
WHEN: Saturday & Sunday, May 11 & May 12, 2024
WHERE: Mills College at Northeastern University's Pool, Oakland, CA
WHY: Show your love for women with cancer at WCRC's Swim A Mile/Move A Mile event! Join us for the pool party in the East Bay and WCRC's biggest fundraiser! This event is possible only with the invaluable service of volunteers, who, year after year, have made this an amazingly successful event. Raise your voice and shake a noisemaker for the water-walkers, swimmers, joggers, walkers, hikers, bikers, friends and family, all who come out to support those in our community affected by cancer.
As a volunteer, you can groove to the tunes spun by our incredible DJ, indulge in delicious homemade food and drinks, and cheer on all of the participants. Most of all, you are giving to the community and helping to make possible the life-changing and life-affirming programs and resources provided by the Women's Cancer Resource Center (WCRC) www.wcrc.org.
The event benefits WCRC, a local community-based non-profit which has always provided FREE programs and services to women and their loved ones who are affected by a cancer diagnosis.
HOW: Please sign up by following the prompts in the Sign Up Genius sheet below. Please note: To accurately identify any group volunteers affiliated with an organization, please answer the required question about group affiliation by selecting a) the organization with which you are volunteering, or if unaffiliated, b) "No I'm not volunteering as part of an organization."
Important! Please note: Attached below is the volunteer waiver. For volunteers under the age of 18 who will be volunteering at the event unaccompanied by a parent/guardian, it is REQUIRED that each such volunteer bring the waiver to the event, signed in advance by their parent/guardian. Also note that the minimum age for volunteering is 13 years old, whether or not their parent/guardian accompanies them to the event.
Also, the Sign Up Genius includes a question that asks all minor volunteers (<18 yrs of age) unaccompanied during the event by an adult, to provide an emergency contact cell phone number and email.
Below are the COVID-19 protocols. If the COVID numbers rise significantly in Alameda County before the event, we may update our protocols as appropriate.
- If you are not feeling well or know that you have recently been exposed to COVID-19, we expect you to stay home. If you aren't sure, please take a rapid test before coming.
- Vaccines and boosters are encouraged for anyone eligible to receive them.
- KN95 masks are strongly encouraged on the pool deck; required in the locker room and restrooms; and required for anyone working in the kitchen or serving food or beverages. We will have them available.
- Please observe physical distancing as able.
- The restrooms, indoor showers and locker rooms are open and should be used at your own discretion.
