Launched in 2021 in Durham, NC following one of the loneliest years for millions around the world, CONTACT Line provides free, emotional support for loneliness and other mental health struggles through face-to-face virtual conversations with volunteer Listeners. We're looking for empathetic individuals (the "Listener") from all walks of life willing to become trained to support others (the "Speaker") through one-on-one video call via Zoom.
Become a Listener trained in active listening, emotional support, and strength identification from wherever you are. No professional experience required. Trained Listeners are a shoulder to lean on for individuals of any age (18+), in any location through 30-minute, one-on-one conversations via video call.
The training to become a Listener involves a didactic portion on the online learning platform Canvas (~ 3-5 hours) and a live workshop portion on Zoom where you get to put the skills you’ve learned into practice with our workshop leaders (3 1-hour workshops). Once you feel comfortable taking on a real conversation, you can start picking up conversations that individuals sign up for. We don't expect any set number of hours from our volunteers, but we do ask that everyone tries to pick up at least a few conversations each month to stay proficient at using their training to support others.
If you're ready to join our compassionate team of Listeners, complete the Listener Application so we can learn a bit more about you before you embark on training: https://airtable.com/shrHcacHeDXMSe6oJ
Please contact us at help.contactline@gmail.com with any questions.
