Access & Visitation Hotline: This statewide hotline assists parents navigating shared parenting time issues by providing legal information and referrals. In 2020, over 26,000 families were served through this hotline. The hotline is federally funded and administered by the Office of the Attorney General’s Child Support Division. Internship Responsibilities: An intern working with the Access & Visitation Hotline will assist the program manager with services provided on the hotline, including answering calls and developing written materials. An intern would learn about family dynamics, legal information and referrals related to shared parenting time. The intern is expected to: · Work closely with experienced attorney to gain hands-on experience with families navigating co-parenting issues. · Provide information and referrals to parents about parenting orders. · Communicate with manger to identify additional legal needs of the callers/website users/makes referrals to appropriate resources. · Conduct interviews, gather demographic information and explain the limited nature of services that can be offered to hotline callers. Supervising attorney is experienced at providing students with varied and challenging assignments, along with opportunities to observe or participate in activities of the office that would be educational for students. Qualifications: An intern must have personal or public transportation to work location. The office environment requires that the intern dress in casual business attire, with ability to work with staff from various backgrounds and work experience. Work Hours: The intern must be available to work a set 8-20 hours a week for the length of the entire semester. The internship hours are at any time between 1 p.m. and 5p.m., Monday - Friday at a prearranged time each week. The Access & Visitation Program is located at 5500 East Oltorf in the Office of the Attorney General Child Support Division Building. Pay Rate: Non-pay. Available for academic credit Dates Needed: Fall, Spring and Summer Semesters

Volunteer and Intern hours are with the hours of operation- Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. Scheduling is flexible.

The Child Support Division of the Office of the Attorney General of Texas has a responsibility to assist parents in obtaining the financial support necessary for children to grow up and succeed in life.
Description
As the official child support enforcement agency for the State of Texas, the Office of the Attorney General provides services for parents who wish to obtain or provide support for their children.
The Child Support Division determines, on a case-by-case basis, which of the child support services listed below are appropriate:
- Locating the absent parent
- Establishing paternity
- Establishing and enforcing child support orders
- Establishing and enforcing medical support orders
- Reviewing and adjusting child support payments
- Collecting and distributing child support payments
The Office of the Attorney General provides parents with a full range of child support services. The services are required by federal law and funded by the federal government and the State of Texas.
