The Horse of the Sun Ranch was very generously donated to the Armed Services YMCA San Diego in January 2020. Not long after, the global pandemic hit and we were unable to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to announce the grand opening of the ranch. That ceremony will now occur during our Fall Festival which will take place 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, 23 October 2021. We ask volunteers to work 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to help with set-up and clean-up before and after the event.

We are seeking volunteers to assist with the supervision and running of a number of games and activities during the event to include:

• Horse Rides
• Cornhole Toss
• Horse Shoe Toss
• Leather Crafting
• Selfie Station
• Petting Zoo
• Archery
• Ranch Tour
• Roping Activity
• Popcorn/Water Station
• PA Station
• Baseball Bottle Toss
• Bounce Houses (2)
• Laser Tag
• Rubber Duckie Station
• Joust (Inflatable)
• Line Dance Lessons
• Parking
• Tug of War
• Food and drinks
• Floater/Roamer

We will try to accommodate your interests in assigning you to your role, however, we cannot guarantee your assignment and ask for your flexibility. Given the large number of volunteers required, we do expect that you remain the entire day.

We ask that you assist with set-up in the morning and tear-down in the afternoon.

We will provide lunch for all volunteers.

You will be outdoors so bring hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc., and comfortable closed-toe shoes/boots are required. That said, the event will happen rain or shine.

Parking will be limited, so please carpool where possible. We will provide free bus transportation from our Murphy Canyon office, 3293 Santo Rd., SD 92124 for up to a maximum of 21 volunteers to the ranch and back to Murphy Canyon in the afternoon. We will only provide bus transportation if there are at least 10 volunteers signed up to use it.
