The Backside Learning Center is in search of a qualified candidate to gain valuable experience in the area of case management and therapy! Duties will be tailored to intern's interest/area of study, but typical duties of the case management and therapy intern include but are not limited to:
- Work with a licensed therapist and learn from her as she provides direct services to our clients and writes case notes.
- Assist clients in accomplishing goals through case management.
- Learning about how different systems impact vulnerable populations in micro and mezzo levels.
- Learn how to effectively advocate.
- Be assigned a family or individual for case management or therapy.
- Participate in program design, program evaluation and curriculum building
- Research, create evidence-based programing, policy making/evaluating
- Assist in group therapy
- Working with a culturally and linguistically diverse community
- This internship is solely for social work practicum students or college students who are studying social sciences.

Description
The Backside Learning Center provides free educational services to the men and women who work with the thoroughberd horses in the barn area, or backside, of Churchill Downs and Trackside in Louisville, KY. Our programming includes English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL), technology workshops, citizenship tutoring, art class, and music class. All of our classes & tutoring depend on volunteers. Family Education Program focusing on afterschool homework assistance for equine workers' children,
Note: BLC hours are between 9:00 am-8:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Days, times and frequency of direct service will fall between these hours but will depend upon the work schedule and availability of students and volunteers.
