Looking for a volunteer who enjoys playing basketball and knowledgeable of the rules of the game - to provide support with Wheelchair Basketball on Saturday's at 10:45AM-2:00PM.


We believe that people living with disabilities should have every opportunity to pursue their dreams. Participating in sports and fitness programs gives both children and adults the opportunity to set goals and achieve increased independence. Sports, both competitive and recreational, teach life skills, promote confidence and develop leadership. Friendships are built, accomplishments are recognized, and people are supported to achieve their fullest potential.

Our Adaptive Sports Program serves youth and adults living with physical disabilities and supports opportunities for all levels of engagement from recreation to high levels of competition. Sport-specific skill training and development following the Paralympic model is offered year round, with seasonal competitions within and outside Connecticut.

Description

Hospital for Special Care is a private, not-for-profit, 228 bed Long-Term, Acute-Care hospital licensed by the state of CT. as a chronic disease hospital. The hospital is renowned for its expertise in physical rehabilitation, respiratory care and medically-complex pediatrics. In addition, special programs are available in the treatment of spinal cord injuries and illness, acquired brain injuries, strokes and breathing disorders.

We also provide a full range of outpatient services, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, rehabilitation evaluation, neuropsychology and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. The hospital also includes a 27,000 foot Aquatic Rehabilitation Center, which completes the full spectrum of rehabilitation and community fitness activities offered.

We also have a 28 bed satellite facility located within Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. The satellite serves patients who are medically or surgically complex and/or require specialized care.
