Bath Farmers Market Gleaning

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program

One volunteer will need to go to our storage facility to pick up banana boxes. In the trailer, there will be at least 10 boxes. Take several of them and make sure there are inserts for the bottoms. You will be gleaning from Tarbox Farm, Goranson Farm and Borealis Bread. You will approach each of them and tell them you're with the Merrymeeting Gleaners, and ask if you can leave a box in case they have something to donate. Borealis Bread usually puts theirs in a bag, but you should still let them know you are there. Then step back and let them finish their business. When you see them shutting down go back and check on each vendor. They will let you know when they have boxes of food for you. One thing to note - Borealis leaves at 12pm sharp so make sure you get to them before they leave. Then you will take the boxes back to 2 Town Landing in Bath. There is a scale and a pen and paper in the trailer. You can weigh everything on site. We will need to know the weight of each type of produce per farm. For example - 3 pounds of kale from Tarbox and 6 pounds of kale from Goranson. You will weigh the bread and then count the loaves. Even if it is a bag of rolls or a pizza crust, they are all counted as one loaf. Record the total weight of bread and the number of units (loaves). Please be sure to close up and lock the building and the trailer when you are finished. Then, deliver to the recipients communicated to you via email. Make sure to note how many boxes or how many pounds go to each recipient.

Requirements:

  • Ability to drive and use own vehicle
  • Ability to pick up boxes of produce (generally ranging from 5-30lb) from the ground and place in car (and vice versa)
