Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The full group will meet near the fields at Goranson Farm, usually on Glasheen Road. A staff member from Goranson will join when you arrive and point out what is available to be gleaned. It will typically be a mix of things still in the ground and some leftover produce in boxes in the barn. You will pick produce for about an hour and a half, which requires walking, kneeling, bending over, and picking things up. Then, all the produce is weighed by type (the team leader brings a scale) and the number of boxes going to each recipient is determined and organized. The team leader also writes down the amount of boxes going to each recipient. Then, the group splits up for deliveries, using the instructions provided in the confirmation email.

Requirements:

  • Ability to drive and use own vehicle
  • Ability to walk, kneel on the ground, bend over, and do other general garden work
  • Ability to pick up boxes of produce (generally ranging from 5-30lb) from the ground and place in car (and vice versa)
