We are looking for volunteers who can teach reading, grammar, or conversation in an evening online class (volunteers teach from home). Curriculum is provided from lead teachers who also support the volunteers. We will train you to use Zoom. Classes are usually small (from 4 - 10 students) who have different backgrounds (e.g. Vietnamese, Somali or other African countries, from Mexico or Latin America countries, and Myanmar (Burmese, Karen, Karenni).
The curriculum augments instruction from their day classes.
Volunteer Background
- No experience or diploma needed -- we'll provide all necessary training -- but if you have a teaching or training background, or have taught reading or English as a volunteer or teacher -- Great!!
- English speakers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to volunteer
- Virtual and In-Person opportunities available
- Time commitment is 1-3 hours per week
- We will match you with students at a time that works for you
- Must be 18 years old to volunteer
- Must currently reside in the USA
- Must agree to a background check (criminal and sex offender background check)
- We strongly encourage volunteers who are people of color, indigenous, immigrants and refugees, LGBQ+, and people with disabilities.
- We also strongly encourage multilingual volunteers who can speak Vietnamese, Karen, Karenni, Burmese, French, Hmong, and Somali.

Address the needs of Vietnamese, Karen, Karenni, Burmese, and Somali families and individuals by providing social services in relation to economic stability, education and health issues, in a context of cultural values.
