Looking For Food Recovery Drivers
Quick Overview: Help end food waste by rescuing and delivering excess food to community agencies, food banks, and pantries.
Impact: 1 in 7 people and 1 in 5 children are food insecure in Los Angeles county. COVID-19 is putting even more people at risk of going hungry, with lines at local food banks increasing significantly. Now more than ever, we need new volunteers that can deliver food to our neighbors in need. This year, we are on track to diverting nearly 4 million pounds of food away from landfills to neighboring communities because of dedicated volunteers. Diverting edible food away from landfills not only makes sense, but it also has a positive environmental impact. Organic materials in landfills break down and emit methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. Feed People Not Landfills is our double impact mission!

FoodCycle LA is a 501c(3) non-profit organization focused on reducing food waste through prevention, recovery, and recycling through our donor - recipient program. We prevent food waste through diversion methods, bringing food security realization among the community and kids. Our Food Recovery and Diversion program recovers the surplus food from local retailers and commercial kitchens that would otherwise be thrown into the landfills. This food goes to our community partner agencies who serve those experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers play a crucial role in our food recovery process by not only helping to divert edible food away from landfills but also tracking the amount of food being recovered, meals delivered, and amount of gas emissions being saved.
Finally you can set your own schedule and pick up food in an hour or less - daily, weekly or monthly. Whatever works for you! If you're looking for a volunteer opportunity in an area not listed in the app, just let us know! We have more opportunities to help in Westside, South Bay, SGV, and SFV!
