Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Hope Reins

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Hope Reins is seeking volunteers from the Hawkins County/Sullivan County areas who wish to serve their community by assisting with the daily care of the rescued equine used in the mentoring/growth and learning programs. Each horse or pony has specific diets, need fresh water, hay and stalls cleaned. They additionally need daily exercise and time out of their stalls.

Mature volunteers (ages 15 and older) from the area are also needed for assisting in the mentoring/growth and learning program by being side walkers for safety while children are riding, be play pals and encouragers to the children, and an overall positive influence for the children. Since the children being served have had adverse childhood experiences, volunteers must be mature and if under 18 must have at least 3 references from non-related adults.

Mission Statement

Hope Reins exists to provide rescued equine a forever home as they bring about hope, healing and change in the lives of those faced with various hurts, loss or traumas.

Description

Hope Reins is a nonprofit founded in 2006 and is volunteer operated. It has served hundreds of children and families and rescued as well as been a forever home to 14 equine since its creation. The overall goal is to encourage and empower each person toward personal growth, both physical and emotional, so they may be healthy, positive and productive members of their community, family, school and work place. Because the equine used in the program have been rescued from situations of severe abuse, neglect and abandonment or have overcome some form of difficulty in their lives, a common bond is formed allowing walls to come down. It is through the care of and interaction with these equine that healing begins as each teach the other the true meaning of unconditional love and how to trust again. It has been proven that these wonderful animals can do amazing things beyond our comprehension in a therapeutic sense. Other aspects of this program are proven to instill and develop character, focusing on the importance of hard work, integrity and commitment, as well as the value of hope, faith and family.
