Mission Statement

The Berkeley Music Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was formed to renovate and run The UC Theatre Taube Family Music Hall in Berkeley.

Our mission is to present a vibrant and diverse range of live performances to advance the understanding and appreciation of music, culture and education in the Bay Area. The new UC Theatre Taube Family Music Hall will be a music venue serving the community.

The centerpiece of the project is to operate a state of the art music venue while educating and training youth, ages 17 to 25, through our arts and concert career pathways educational programs.

Description

The UC Theatre will join the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, Berkeley Art Museum, Aurora Theatre, & the newly christened California Jazz Conservatory (Jazz School) to expand Berkeley’s Art & Entertainment District with a vibrant new music venue serving the local community and beyond. The UC Theatre will serve as an entertainment and economic catalyst to downtown Berkeley just as the Fox Theatre in Oakland helped to transform the Uptown music, arts & entertainment scene, and boost economic revitalization in Oakland.

The UC Theatre will feature a diverse range of local, national, and international artists rarely seen at a venue of this size in the East Bay outside the San Francisco music scene. Additional programming will include film, comedy shows, and a speaker series.

The UC Theatre will be a 1,400 person capacity, elegant, all-ages, multi-tiered, ADA accessible music venue featuring world-class sound and theatrical lighting systems with full service restaurant & barserving the community. The Berkeley Music Group will start by presenting roughly 75-100 shows per year at The UC Theatre.

The UC Theatre will also function as a classroom. The Berkeley Music Group Educational Programs will offer a platform for learning the technical, creative, and business aspects of promoting concerts and cultural events through workshops and hands-on paid internship programs. Graduates from the internship program will be introduced to a network of Bay Area venues for employment opportunities. We will offer these programs to youth 17 to 25 attending local schools, to under resourced youth in established programs at local non-profit organizations, and to the general public.

The Berkeley Music Group is dedicated to ensuring that The UC Theatre strengthens the Bay Area’s vibrant fabric of non-profit arts & service organizations. BMG is working to build a Collaborative Network with existing education, performing arts and music venue non-profits to help them with their fundraising through events at The UC Theatre.
