Mercy Housing California

The Hamilton Apartments is a Mercy Housing Permanent Supportive Housing program that serves individuals who have formerly experienced homelessness. Some residents turn the key to their new homes but could use some extra support to obtain basic personal supplies.

Join our dedicated team who help organize our clothing closet, a special resource for the community that we serve at the Hamilton. The clothing closet is a room filled with men's women’s clothing, accessories, and supplies provided by in-kind donations.

Our clothing closet is open every Monday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Volunteers are needed between 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm to sort clothes, pair outfits, inventory items, enforce social distancing guidelines and keep the closet organized and tidy for neighbors to shop. We'll work with your schedule if you only have availability for part of the shift.

We will practice safe social distance protocols, and we ask that all volunteers wear sturdy tennis shoes or boots and bring a mask and gloves.

The Hamilton is an affordable housing community serving 92 households in Oakland, California.

About Mercy Housing California

1360 Mission Street,, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94103, US

Mission Statement

To create stable, vibrant and healthy communities by developing, financing and operating affordable, program-enriched housing for families, seniors and people with special needs who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe housing opportunities.

Mercy Housing was founded in 1981 in response to the lack of stable, affordable housing for vulnerable populations. In working to fulfill our mission, Mercy Housing California has developed more than 154 affordable housing communities in 36 counties throughout California, providing 17,000+ homes and serving over 24,000 people in need.

Mercy's commitment to program-enriched housing distinguishes us from many other large scale affordable housing developers. Housing is foundational - everyone needs a home. But many people who have endured poverty and other challenges need an additional hand-up to create the lives they want for themselves and their families. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work with residents right in their homes and neighborhoods on issues like health and wellness, housing stability, financial security as well as provide a full range of enriching out-of-school time options for youth.
