This is a two day event. Volunteers can help one day of both.
The Salvation Army has partnered with the University of Akron to help feed their students. We provide bags of groceries to students who come to us with a valid student ID. The process to get the food ready and pass it out takes parts of two days. This is where volunteers are needed to make this happen.
Day 1 - October 27th
At 10AM at our 2207 Romig Rd. warehouse we get the food from the Akron/Canton Foodbank. We then organize the food and prepare around 125 bags of food for students. Depending how many volunteers we have determines how quickly the job goes. We could use 5-10 bag preparers.
Day 2- October 28th
From 10:45-1PM we are on campus setting up and distributing the 125 bags of food to students. The gratitude we receive from the students is overwhelming. This program helps many students offset the cost of food in their already stretched budgets.
If you would like to help with either event please contact John Kasler at The Salvation Army either through this site or through calling/texting at 330.958.2906.
A future event will also be planned in November for students.
