ORGANIZATION: SUNSHINE SOUND CENTER

  • 1 person is interested

We are looking for one or two volunteers in the high desert area to help promote the local music scene by writing about it. This may include album reviews, band/artist interviews, and coverage of local shows and festivals. The articles you write will be posted on our website, sent out via newsletters, and shared on social media.

We'll try to get you free press passes to events whenever possible, but that's not guaranteed.

You can write from everywhere, but you have to be available to attend events and meet with artists. We'd prefer individuals who live in the high desert and understand this community.

Experience is not required, but we'd like to see a short writing sample to make sure your writing is engaging for our readers and helpful for our community.

Because a lot of events are 21+, we'd prefer volunteers to be over 21, but if you're underage you could still help out with other content.

Overall, if you love music and this sounds fun to you, please reach out!

Mission Statement

Sunshine Sound Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit experimental music collective with a mission. We started in 2017 in San Diego, California and have since relocated to Joshua Tree. Our goal from the beginning was simple: to improve access to music, for artists and audiences in our community.

Description

Here’s some of the stuff we do:

  • Sunshine Sound Podcast featuring different music makers in Joshua Tree and beyond.
  • Route 62 Records - a music collective focused on experimental music in Southern California.
  • Promotion of local music.
  • Events for musicians to meet and collaborate.

Our dream is to have a community of artists where everyone helps to improve the music scene.

MISSION

To transform the lives of individuals throughout southern California by providing equitable access to music and music education, and to advance independent music and the community that surrounds it.

VISION

We believe that lifelong involvement in the arts is valuable and transformative.

We believe that artists and audiences are equally essential to the creation of music in our culture.

We believe that improving the distribution of music is beneficial for both the musician and the community.
