San Clemente Village is Recruiting Volunteers

Save to Favorites

When you hear of San Clemente Village (SCV), you might think it’s a senior living facility. On the contrary, we are a vibrant organization of vetted volunteers who provide social connections, services and transportation to medical appointments, the grocery store, planned educational events and social activities for older adults in our beautiful town. Our vision is to help older residents of San Clemente thrive and live well in their homes.

San Clemente Village is part of the nation-wide Village to Village network, which, the website ( says, "...pioneered the way for a positive, forward-thinking model for aging." Village Movement California is our state-run branch, and in 2016, San Clemente was lucky enough to get its’ own Village non-profit organization. San Clemente Village’s Executive Director is Jan Montague. She has a gerontology background and is also on the state Village Board. Volunteers and board members consist of local residents. Today, San Clemente Village has approximately 65 members and 50 volunteers.

SCV volunteers think of themselves as neighbors helping neighbors. But, did you know that doing good is also good for you? The Mayo Clinic recently published 6 health benefits of volunteering:

  1. Volunteering connects you to others and helps you make new friends and contacts.
  2. Volunteering gives a sense of purpose and decreases the risk of depression.
  3. Volunteering helps people stay physically and mentally active.
  4. Volunteering may reduce stress levels and could help you live longer.
  5. Volunteering helps you meet others and develop new relationships.
  6. Volunteering helps people and changes lives.

As a SCV volunteer, you decide how much and how often you are available to assist our members. For some, it might be a couple of hours a month but for others it’s a couple of hours a week. We always make sure that the appropriate volunteer is called to provide help for each member’s service request.

Our volunteers are all ages (18 and above) and come from a variety of backgrounds. Please consider sharing a bit of your time and kindness for others with San Clemente Village. We’ve had several new members join and we urgently need additional volunteers. It’s easy, we want volunteering with SCV to be a great experience for you. Call our office today to get started-we can’t wait to meet you!
