Mission Statement
The Northwest New Mexico Growers Market Alliance is a collaborative project founded in 2020 that serves as an organizational umbrella for seven regional growers market in San Juan County, including the Kirtland, Farmington and Bloomfield Growers Markets, the Farmington Makers Market, The Harvest Mobile Farmers Market, and the Aztec and Shiprock Farmers Markets. With the support of San Juan College and Four Corners Economic Development, this Alliance strives to increase coordination amongst markets to build sustainability, strength and efficiency into the market programs.
Description
The independent markets work hard to both increase opportunities for farmers while providing services to areas that have little or no access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The Northwest New Mexico Growers Market Alliance is working to build efficiency and organization in the regional markets, provide opportunities for expansion and profitability for producers and improve food access for community members. The program is overseen by the Alliance coordinator who works directly with each market manager and board to support their efforts.
The key areas the Alliance will focus on include:
- Improve the coordination and efficiency of the markets’
- Increase profitability, retention and training of market vendors
- Increase consumer education and outreach programs
- Create a volunteer network and increase community engagement
The Alliance looks forward to a future filled with strong regional markets that allow every member of our community access to healthy, local food.
