Volunteer Position is FREE THEM PG is looking for volunteers. We are a group of local abolitionist and activist and we support people directly impacted by incarceration in Prince George's County, Maryland. This includes writing letters, fund raising, physical jail support and delivery of groceries on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also need help with organizing the donations of food, clothes and toiletries that come in.
We provide this support in the following ways:
- Physical and Virtual Jail "Cage" Support-We have a total of 10 volunteers that come out and do physical jail support. We also have 8 volunteers that write to community members impacted by incarceration and provide them with information on how to connect with community resources-including financial support, food aid, transportation, and legal support.
- Inside Support- We put money on incarcerated women’s accounts monthly in the amount of $50, to assist with cost associated with obtaining menstrual hygiene, medication and other dietary needs.
- Emergency Aid -We have provided food aid to more than 500 families during the pandemic-shopping for them and delivering food or providing them with funds to purchase their own groceries.
- Maintaining Connections-We write to incarcerated women on a regular basis to see what their needs are and how they are doing.
- Community Centered Events-We work with several organizations, including Life After Release, to organize community events centered on providing access to information, connection to services, and community celebration. Events have included a Brake Light Clinic, Vaccination Clinic, and Mother’s Day Bailout Block Party.

About LIFE AFTER RELEASE
Location:
13802 S SPRINGFIELD RD, BRANDYWINE, MD 20613, US
Mission Statement
Life After Release began inside a Maryland prison in 2017 where incarcerated Black mothers began organizing to address prison conditions and to build a hopeful future after release. We realized that the state was not only failing to provide us transitional support and services but also that it was counting on keeping us in a cycle of policing, supervision and incarceration. Today, our mission is to build an abolition movement among Black women and families, rebuild our devastated communities and keep each other safe.
Description
Courtwatch PG is a growing community of volunteers from Prince George’s County, Maryland and the surrounding Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area - and beyond. We observe bail hearings in PG County District Court to document our county’s policies in action and to hold judicial actors accountable for injustice in the court system. Courtwatch PG is powered by Life After Release, and founded and led by formerly incarcerated Black women. We courtwatchers represent all ages and backgrounds. We are joined by the call to anti-racist action and by faith in abolitionist futures. Our Goals
- Gather real-time, objective data that will illuminate patterns and long term trends in the PG County Court System.
- Let PG County officials know that the public is paying attention to the bail process.
- Create an informed and involved public by educating communities about the court system
