Prior to the pandemic Georgia students were faring poorly: 78 % of Black, 78 % of Hispanic and 55 % of White 4th grade public school students could not read at grade level in 2015. 85 % of Black, 79 % of Hispanic and 57% of White 8th grade public school students could not read at grade level in 2015. The pandemic added anxiety and toxic stress for the students. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death behind unintentional injury for children ages 10-17 in Georgia. The Thrive Tribe program will provide students with access to healthy food, engaging academic remediation, care for their physical and mental health, and supportive, highly qualified educators, mentors, and mental health professionals. Our programs serve at-risk preK-12 th grade students attending Title I schools in Gwinnett County. Parent seminars will equip parents with the skills and resource connections required to enable their students to thrive. Programs will include academic support, social and emotional enrichment activities, and family involvement activities in a safe, engaging environment where students learn through exploration. Specific goals in academics, modifying student behavior, and family engagement; undergo constant evaluation. The objectives will enable students to overcome education, employment, health, social and emotional challenges. Our curricula integrate Georgia standards (GELDS, GAKS, GPS, GAYDQS, and GSHS. The therapist would facilitate a 30 minute to one hour group therapy session for students and a monthly parent meeting. We are seeking someone who can provide Biblical counseling and trauma informed practice in helping students develop strategies for dealing with toxic stress caused by the pandemic and other factors.
