ORGANIZATION: AMERICAN AVIATION HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Do you have an interest in or have experience with aviation? How would you like to identify and research aircraft from photographs, using your own computer? If so, we want to hear from you!

If you want to help, great! Note that this project is done on your schedule, from your computer at your home or office. The best part is that you can sign up now, just follow these steps: (be sure to click "read more" to see all of the steps)

  1. Visit the PlaneSpotter website: https://aahsplanespotter.com/.
  2. Click SIGN UP at the top, type in your contact information
  3. We’ll email you asking you to provide a login/password that’s easy for you to remember
  4. Once your login is set up, you’ll be assigned a batch of images which you’ll access through the PlaneSpotter website
  5. One photo at a time, you will research available information shown in the image using the internet and our Resources Page https://aahsplanespotter.com/resources.php
  6. Next, you will enter the information you find (tail number, make/model of the plane, location, etc.) to the page for that image on the PlaneSpotter website
  7. Once you complete your batch of images, you can request another batch!

"Try" before you "Fly"
This is a chance to practice the above steps of identifying aircraft and entering information you find, before signing up as a PlaneSpotter volunteer:

  1. Visit: https://aahsplanespotter.com/demo.php.
  2. Click any of the sample images, follow steps 5-7 above.
  3. The page at step 7 above is exactly what volunteers see with the sample image on the left and the fields to enter information found in your online research.

Mission Statement

The primary objective of the organization is the preservation and dissemination of the rich heritage of American aviation. The Society maintains an extensive collection of books, documents and photographs that are available to researchers and aviation enthusiasts on a wide variety of American aviation history.

Description

AAHS has been in operation since 1956, collecting and preserving aviation photos and written material from members from all over the world. Over two million photos and the collection increases monthly! AAHS publishes a quarterly Journal, (continuously since 1956) regularly named one of the top 100 aviation publications in the US. Much of the image collection is in print form, and needs to be scanned and cataloged, without such action we cannot share them effectively with our members or the public.
