Remember when you wanted to make a difference in the world? You still can! Our hospice patients often need a friendly face to help brighten their days. You can dramatically improve their mood by listening to their life stories, running errands, playing cards, or by quietly sitting with them. Sharing your talent also makes a difference. Playing an instrument, singing, sewing or even a handy man skill all benefits our patients.

Or if you enjoy being more social you might want to think about assisting with our Veteran Pinning, educational events, celebrating patient birthdays, or holidays. We have a place for you! Elara Caring provides specialized end-of-life care.

Our volunteers play a vital role in our services. They assist with administrative duties, patient companionship visits, pet therapy, Veteran outreach, documenting our patient’s legacy, and providing respite for our patient’s families. You decide the amount of time you can volunteer. You can assist or help a couple of hours a day, a week, or a month. It is up to you, and we will work with your schedule. Elara Caring Hospice serves patients in Summit, Stark, Portage, Medina and Tuscarawas counties.

Our volunteer program is supervised by a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator who provides hospice orientation, training and ongoing support to our volunteer team. We offer individualized volunteer training catered to your schedule. A two step TB test, background check and orientation (all provided by Elara Caring) are also requirements to become an Elara Caring Volunteer. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Melissa Schlimm at 330-608-7257 or via email at mschlimm2@elara.com for more information or to set up a date and time for the volunteer interview. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!
