Enjoy assembling items? Join us in making non-perishable meal bags, health care kits and breaking down food donations!

Our Mission: We remove barriers to health with relentless compassion so that no one faces illness and injustice alone.

We have robust client management and support programs for housing, medical, wellness, dental, aging and disability client + sexual health education and prevention for both adults and youth.

Every week our Chicken Soup Brigade Client Care Advocates, Nutritionists, Chefs and Cooks, Warehouse and Distribution staff and regular weekly volunteers work together to make, package, bag and deliver medically tailored meals and groceries to clients. We serve homebound seniors and people living with serious health conditions across King, Snohomish and Island County.

Where you come in: Lifelong's Chicken Soup Brigade (CSB) needs volunteers to pack bags of meals in our warehouse. The warehouse is the foundation of our work in getting food to clients who are living with and at risk of serious illnesses. Get a workout in while making sure food gets out to people who need it! With nearly 1.5 million pounds of food coming through our door every year, we need all hands on deck to help process the donations.

Meal Bagging Volunteers are typically on their feet for most of their shift, and need to be able to lift 10-20 pounds.

Available Shift times:
Thursdays 5:30-7:30pm
Fridays 9:30am-12pm and 1:30-4pm

Ages: Ages 16+; 16-17 with a guardian/parental consent form which we will provide.

About Lifelong

Location:

210 S. Lucile Street, SEATTLE, WA 98106, US

Mission Statement

Lifelong is the leading community health organization serving people with chronic illnesses, including cancers, homebound seniors and HIV/AIDS, in Western Washington. We believe all people have a right to a roof over their head, healthy food to eat, and access to affordable healthcare. Lifelong delivers food, housing, and health services; collaborates with community organizations on the prevention and care of chronic disease; and advocates for effective HIV/ AIDS policy. Lifelong's goal is to keep people healthy. Simply put- we make health work.

Description

When a person is living with a chronic illness and faced with financial hardships, getting healthy can be an overwhelming task. This struggle affects people in every corner of our community - from ambitious youth eager to start their lives but struggling to come to terms with their illness to seniors dealing with hunger and isolation.

Until they get back on their feet, we advocate to make sure the amazing people we serve receive what many of us take for granted - food, shelter, insurance, even human interaction.

Here's how we help:

  • For people living with a chronic illness, a nutritious meal can make a huge difference in the struggle for wellness. Our FOOD program, Chicken Soup Brigade, provides nourishment to our clients through its grocery and meal program.
  • When chronically ill people have a stable, safe place to live, they have a significantly better chance at improving their health. At Lifelong, we provide a variety of HOUSING options to create stable living situations for our clients.
  • The HEALTH of our clients is our number one priority. We help our clients get on insurance plans so they can get the care they need. We also focus on HIV prevention and education outreach, and work hard to ensure that funding for programs is maintained at the State and Federal levels.
