Want to make a difference?
Do you love talking over the phone? Can you see yourself facilitating a group audio-chat? If so, consider becoming a moderator for one of many phone-based discussion groups for older adults, many of whom are NYCHA residents in the Fort Greene and Clinton Hill neighborhoods. There are five current groups in particular looking for leaders: chair exercise, bereavement, technology tutoring, food, and arts & crafts. This program was designed in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the accompanying rise in social isolation amongst older adults, especially those without internet access. By coming together as a group, participants can gain much-needed social contact by way of rich, fun, and interesting conversation. All groups have up to eight members and meet once-a-week for typically five weeks. If you are interested in moderating an existing group or starting a new one, inquire today!
Guess what?! There are even more great opportunities for volunteers 55 and older in all 5 boroughs!
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City works with over 250 partner organizations. If this opportunity is not for you, we can help you find another that is. Inquire about our active opportunities today and/or ask to be added to our contact list for after things settle down!
**Please note: all of our volunteer opportunities are for individuals 55 and older; also, most assignments are with our partners located across the City**
