Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)/CSSNYC

Want to make a difference?

Do you love talking over the phone? Can you see yourself facilitating a group audio-chat? If so, consider becoming a moderator for one of many phone-based discussion groups for older adults, many of whom are NYCHA residents in the Fort Greene and Clinton Hill neighborhoods. There are two current groups in particular looking for leaders: Brooklyn history as well as current events. This program was designed in direct response to the recent pandemic and the accompanying rise in social isolation amongst older adults, especially those without internet access. By coming together as a group, participants can gain much-needed social contact by way of rich, fun, and interesting conversation. All groups have up to eight members and meet once-a-week for five weeks. If you are interested in moderating an existing group or starting a new one, inquire today!

Guess what?! There are even more great opportunities for volunteers 55 and older in all 5 boroughs!

RSVP works with over 250 partner organizations. If this opportunity is not for you, we can help you find another that is. Inquire about our active opportunities today and/or ask to be added to our contact list for after things settle down!

**Please note: all RSVP volunteer opportunities are for individuals 55 and older; also, most assignments are with our partners located across the City**

About Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)/CSSNYC

Location:

633 Third Avenue, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10017, US

Mission Statement

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic and political opportunities.

Description

RSVP matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, RSVP in New York City is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 RSVPs which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
