ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties

Respond to media requests from local media partners by conducting interviews, providing important disaster updates, and being on camera as needed to represent the Red Cross organization.

  • Comfortable with public speaking and delivering talking points on camera, willing to be interviewed by local media outlets
  • Sharing important information out on disaster evacuation points, shelter locations, other services, etc.
  • Ideal for someone with a background in Communications, Public Relations, or Media Communications
  • Support the Volunteer Recruitment efforts, particularly reaching out to the Latinx community
  • All training provided by the Red Cross
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a BONUS!
  • Red Cross provides all training. Training can be done online. Initial training is about 2 hours in total.

Time Commitment:
Volunteers commit to taking at least 1 on-call shift per month. On-call shifts are 24-hours and lasts 2 weeks. During this on-call period, volunteers are expected to:
  • Respond as a Public Information Officer to a disaster-related location within two hours of being notified.
  • Geographic area includes San Diego and Imperial Counties.
