Want to make a difference?
Are you a professional coder or programmer? Or perhaps you just have a passion for computer languages? Either way, if you want to impart some wisdom to the younger generation, sign up to teach a programming language to those who are interested. Volunteers must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be comfortable public speaking, and, in most cases, able to pass a basic background check. As of this typing, the only opportunity we have available involves teaching Python 3 to students at a middle school in Bayside, Queens. However, as time goes on, we may have other opportunities, so feel free to ask!

Mission Statement
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
