At the Salvation Army, our doors are open every day, and night of the year. Through our emergency housing facilities, homeless shelters, transitional living centers, group homes, and family shelters, we provide over 10 million nights of lodging annually. In addition to supplying shelter from the elements, beds, food, and basic hygiene resources to those in need, we help combat long-term homelessness in America by serving homeless adults, veterans, and children with holistic physical, emotional, and spiritual support.

Note that we continue to closely monitor the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and evaluate the situation to ensure we are taking necessary measures to protect the health and wellbeing of our volunteers.

Description

The Salvation Army Miami Area Command is home to The Red Shield Lodge homeless shelter. The shelter has around 260 beds, laundry, common areas for residents, a computer room, a Health Resource Center and a newly renovated dining room where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily. Each year The Salvation Army Miami Area Command serves over 4,800 hot meals. Residents do not pay for anything when they are here. Each resident has a case manager who helps them reach their goals in order to achieve independence. The shelter houses a food pantry that is open to anyone in the community and serves over 200 families per week. In addition, there are Corps in various areas of Miami that act as Community Centers and Churches for their respective areas. Each Corps has Youth Programs, food pantries and spiritual services.
