Event Description: Smoking Mirrors is a politically relevant exhibit on Chicanx Muralism that explores the topics of decolonization, slavery, ancient wisdom and art washing. During the opening ceremony, curators explain the purpose and thought behind the exhibit to a selected few guests who get to enjoy the art work.

Volunteer Opportunity: Volunteers would be responsible for aiding in the preparation and development of the event. They would get the opportunity to get an exclusive first look at the exhibit, meet some of the artists and curators of the show as well as learn about the importance of muralism in social movements.

Mission Statement

Museo De Las Americas is dedicated to educating our community through collecting, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting the diverse arts and cultures of the Americas from ancient to contemporary, through innovative exhibitions and programs.


The Museo de las Americas is a private non-profit organization founded in 1991. It is the only museum in the Rocky Mountain Region focusing exclusively on the art, history and culture of Latin America. The Museo is located in the thriving Santa Fe Arts District of Denver and is at the heart of Denver's Latino community.

The Museo has two galleries: The Tragen Folk Art Gallery and the changing art gallery, with temporary exhibitions by emerging and established contemporary artists from throughout the Americas.

Adult programs focus on contemporary art, lectures, and symposiums on all aspects of Latino art, culture and prehistory.

The Museo has a fascinating Gift Shop - with discounts offered to volunteers.

  • Schedule is mutually decided and flexible. Shifts are from three to five hours. Food and breaks are always provided.
