AHC Inc, an affordable housing developer, provides educational programs for children in elementary school through high school. Our multi-pronged approach includes a College & Career Readiness Program for juniors & seniors in high school. The program is very successful, with all thirty seniors in this year’s program planning to attend college. Most of these students are first generation college students and collectively received $3,000,000 in scholarships.

AHC is looking for volunteers to mentor juniors and seniors in Arlington County high schools as they work towards college or a career. Volunteers are matched with a particular student to work one-on-one with SAT prep, university research, essay writing and scholarship applications, studying for the ASVAB for military enlistment, or assisting a teen with entering the workforce (creating a resume, researching job readiness programs, etc.).

The timing of the program is flexible, based on the volunteer's and student's schedules. Workflows for students will ebb and flow meaning they won't need support every week. The meetings will take place in AHC community centers or public places, like libraries or coffee shops, in Arlington and can take place on evenings or weekends.

We ask mentors to make a year long commitment and hope that most are able to commit to helping their student for the student's junior and senior years.

If you are interested becoming a mentor, please email us at volunteer@ahcinc.org
