Mission Statement

STEMpoderate is a project that seeks to empower high school girls in under privileged areas of El Salvador to learn more about STEM, and encourage them to follow their dreams. Our main aim is to help reduce the gender gap in STEM in developing countries like El Salvador, because we know the great potential woman have to change the world.

Description

STEMpoderate is a woman supporting woman project. Our project is based in El Salvador, Central America, where less than 30% of STEM graduates are female and over 52% of youth in rural areas of the country drop out of high school yearly. This is why, the project targets the girls from eighth to eleventh grade with the aim of motivating them to stay in school and pursue their dream futures regardless of their current circumstances. The project also works on breaking down stereotypes surrounding male dominated careers and introducing underprivileged girls to the world of STEM. The project has exposed girls to areas like robotics, technology, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering etc.
